સરકી જાયે પલ…
કાળ તણું જાણે કે એ તો વરસે ઝરમર જલ !
નહીં વર્ષામાં પૂર,
નહીં ગ્રીષ્મ મહીં શોષાય,
કોઈના સંગનિ:સગની એને
કશી અસર નવ થાય,
ઝાલો ત્યાં તો છટકે એવી નાજુક ને ચંચલ !
છલક છલક છલકાય
છતાં યે કદી શકી નવ ઢળી,
વૃન્દાવનમાં,
વળી કોઈને કુરુક્ષેત્રમાં મળી,
જાય તેડી પોઢેલાંને યે નવે લોક, નવ સ્થલ !

Excellent little poem (geet) with noticable use of ‘pras’. If I reacall correcly, Manilal Desia was also a godd gazalkar of the early time (kalapi,shayada,kantharia etc) and more Gujarati than urdu oriented.

Manilal Desai was born much later in 1939. He died at a very young age in 1966. He published only one kavyasangrah but gave us many memorable poems.

સરકી જાયે પલ…
કાળ તણું જાણે કે એ તો વરસે ઝરમર જલ ! [ The passage of time(includes past memories) slips by like a drizzle(light rain) ]
નહીં વર્ષામાં પૂર,
નહીં ગ્રીષ્મ મહીં શોષાય,
કોઈના સંગનિ:સગની એને
કશી અસર નવ થાય,
ઝાલો ત્યાં તો છટકે એવી નાજુક ને ચંચલ ! [ Time has no bearing /impact on rain nor on heat-wave nor does it care about someone’s feelings. It feels to be in one’s firm hold but only to see, slip away]
છલક છલક છલકાય
છતાં યે કદી શકી નવ ઢળી,
વૃન્દાવનમાં,
વળી કોઈને કુરુક્ષેત્રમાં મળી,
જાય તેડી પોઢેલાંને યે નવે લોક, નવ સ્થલ ! [ Time, can sometimes give you all those feelings of fulfillment in life(any place like Vrindavan or Kurushetra etc ..), but it can never be binded at one place but goes off to nine & new places]
Note : My honest effort to translate into English keeping it’s poetic essence intact.
