કોરો કાગળ – વિજય જોષી
કોરા કાગળનો એક ટુકડો.
મુસલમાને લખ્યું, “કુરાન”,
ખ્રિસ્તીએ લખ્યું, “બાઈબલ”,
યહૂદીએ લખ્યું, “ટોરાહ”,
અને હિંદુએ લખ્યું, “ગીતા”.
દરેકે પોતાનો જ શબ્દ
સાચો હોવાનો દાવો કર્યો.
ધાંધલ મચી.
મિજાજ ભડક્યા.
અચાનક,
તીવ્ર વેદનામાં
કાગળે ચીસ પાડી-
બસ કરો,
દખલ ન કરો,
રહેવા દો મને માત્ર,
એક કોરો ટુકડો કાગળનો.

મૂળ અંગ્રેજીમાં લખેલી કવિતાનો કવિએ પોતે જ ગુજરાતી અનુવાદ પણ કર્યો છે. સાવ સીધી અને સરળ વાત પણ કેવી હૃદયદ્રાવક ! રજનીશે એની જિંદગીમાં એક જ વાક્ય કહ્યું હોત તો પણ એ ઉત્તમ ફિલસૂફ ગણાયા હોત એ વાક્ય અહીં ટાંકવાનું મન થાય છે: “Kill the religion”.
કોરા કાગળનો એક ટુકડો અને કાગળનો એક કોરો ટુકડો – અહીં ‘કોરા’ શબ્દનો સ્થાનવ્યત્યય પણ ધ્યાન માંગી લે છે. કવિના પોતાના શબ્દોમાં, ‘કાગળ કોરો હોય ત્યારે વિચારોને આમંત્રે છે પણ વિચારો પૂરા થઈ જાય ત્યારે કાગળ નહીં પણ ટુકડો જ કોરો નજરે ચડે છે.’

A Muslim wrote “Quran”,
A Christian wrote “Bible”,
A Jew wrote “Torah”,
A Hindu wrote “Gita”,
Everyone claimed
his own to be the truth
& the only truth.
A pandemonium ensued,
tempers flared
suddenly,
in great agony,
the paper screamed,
stop it,
leave me alone,
let me just be,
a blank piece of paper.

Thanks everyone and special thanks to Vivekbhai for his valuable critique and encouragement. I am venturing into a new genre of writing some what darker poems which are quite prevalent in the American Lit but not so common in Gujarati. In coming months .i plan to continue to write in English and then translating into Gujarati.
So thanks a whole bunch and kudos again to Vivekbhai and his superb team for publishing one of the best blogs in Gujarati.

તારી તસ્વીરો કોરા કાગળ પર બનાવીને રાખી છે અનેક ,
તો ય મને ખાતરી છે કે તારો ચેહરો આમાંથી કોઈ નહીં હોય …!
કાગળ કોરો છોડી દેવાની મજા છે…
લખેલા શબ્દોમાં ઓળખાઈ જાય છે માણસ…ય …!!!!!

કોરા કાગળની નિયતિ શું?
શબ્દ બોલાયેલો કે લખાયેલો…કોઈકની કંઈક ઓળખાણ તો આપેજ…
ભલે વાત બીજાની કરાય પણ “કહેનાર લખનારને પોતાની જાત વિશેજ
કંઈક વધુ કહેવાનું હોતું હોય છે!”
કાગળને પણ સાવ છેકજ કોરા રહેવાનું તો કેમ પાલવે?
જણ જણ નું અને ક્ષણ ક્ષણ નું દરેકનું સત્ય જુદું ન્ હોઈ શકે?

commenting on La’ kant’s observation above, I am saying in the poem is that problems arise when a “belief” which is a “subjective truth” is erroneously interpreted to mean a “subjecive truth.”
There is a difference between the terms “objective” and “subjective.” Something that exists objectively exists outside and apart from you. If you didn’t exist, it still would. The law of gravity, this earth and the universe, all exist apart from us and are objective truths whereas our emotions or beliefs are subjective truths. Emotions and beliefs experienced by me are purely my own personal experiences and no one else’s.
When the written word on a blank piece of paper which in fact is a personal belief (a subjective truth) but is erroneously interpreted to be an objective truth and only truth then the blank piece of paper (which is a metaphor for religious tolerance) cries out that if we cannot stop all these religious astrocities and monstrocities, then may be it is time to leave it a blank piece of paper.
